Political hopefuls meetto plan sustainability-focused election campaigns
(Victoria, BC) – Today, Tuesday Sept. 20, political candidates from across theCapital Regional District will be attending a presentation and facilitateddiscussion about campaigning to create a more sustainable region in municipalelections this November.
The event has been organized by the Dogwood Initiative, Community Micro Lendingand the Community Social Planning Council specifically for candidates whoidentify with the following sustainability principles.
1. Promoting sustainable livelihoods
2. Food and agricultural security
3. Affordable housing
4. Poverty reduction
5. Sustainable energy and transportation initiatives
“This event will be an opportunity for progressive political candidates toshare skills and strategies for campaigning on sustainability platforms,” saidGordon O’Connor, Dogwood Initiative’s Vancouver Island campaigner. “Sustainability is a regional issue and for the CRD to reach its potential weneed progressive leaders in all of our municipalities.”
