Create a lasting legacy of change by adding Dogwood to your will

Your legacy is the everlasting impact you have on the people and world around you. Leave a legacy gift to Dogwood in your will and transform the lives of thousands for generations to come.

Leaving a legacy gift exemplifies the kind of person you are, your values and the important work you want safeguarded into the future. Dogwood will honour your gift by tackling three of the most defining issues of our time: decarbonizing, democratizing and decolonizing B.C.

We’d love to send you more information or discuss the opportunity further. Please get in touch with Adam Bailey, Head of Revenue, 250-370-9930  [email protected].

Gifts Made Through Wills

Wills are a popular vehicle for donors to make legacy gifts. The following are possible ways to make gifts by Will, and sample phrases for consideration by donors and their lawyers:

A general bequest for a specific sum of money. “I give to Dogwood the sum of ($00,000).”

A specific gift of tangible assets such as stock, proceeds of an insurance policy, a RRIF or RRSP, property or possessions. “I give to Dogwood (500 shares of ABC stock).”

A ‘residual’ bequest, designating all or a specific portion of what remains after all debts, taxes, expenses and other bequests have been paid. “I give (50%) of the residue of my estate to Dogwood.”

A contingent bequest. “In the event that my spouse does not survive me, I give to Dogwood the following (amount of cash, property or percentage of residual estate).”

A ‘failed’ bequest. “In case any bequest made by this Will shall fail, the property so bequeathed is to go to Dogwood.”

A bequest to take effect after a lifetime beneficiary has passed away. “Upon the death of (my spouse, sibling, etc.) the remainder of my estate shall be paid to Dogwood.”

A beneficiary of the last resort. “In the event that there is no beneficiary alive at the time they are entitled to receive a share of my estate, then the shares of the estate that they would have been entitled to receive shall go to Dogwood.”

Due to the hard-hitting nature of our campaigns, Dogwood is not a registered charity and cannot issue tax receipts for legacy gifts. For inquiries about charitable giving options, please call Adam Bailey, Head of Revenue, at 250-370-9930

Letting us know

When you leave your bequest to Dogwood, it would be great if you could let us know. You don’t have to tell us, but we’d love to have the chance to thank you personally – and talk to you about the different ways your visionary gift could be used. It’s also very helpful for us to know that supporters are planning to contribute to the movement in this way.
